Module 3 Reflection Prompt: Reflect on what you plan to do to address the equity and ethics issues when applying technologies. You may share with us about what you have been doing by addressing these aspects and what you will change after learning in this module.
Description: Learning about the ethics and equity in this module gave me a deeper understanding of what best practices are we should be implementing in our department. In my office, we do not touch on this topic during student tech assistant training but some issues about passwords or private matters in front of a microphone have come up.
Impact: I feel that with a deeper and more thorough understanding of the ethics issues that our DL rooms are faced with will allow us to have an initial policy in place. for example, what do we do if an instructor "saves a password" on the public classroom pc, or what do we do if the instructors as the student assistants to use their log in and passwords for something. I believe that if we arm our students with policies of potential security or ethical breeches, it will alleviate on-the-spot reactions of surprise and they will have more confidence for what do to in each case.
Intent: I plan on creating a handout for my student assistants that includes our mission on the use of copyright images & videos during class, password protection for software on the public classroom pc, the use of their personal information requested by an instructor, informing class participants of sharing personal information if there is an open mic, etc. Empowering my student assistants with knowledge and a policy or procedure in this area will allow our users to feel safe and comfortable.
